Transforming Underhill Park with state-of-the-art facilities
Project overview
RD Group company, RDM Electrical and Mechanical Services (RDM), is proud to have collaborated with T.A.D. Builders Ltd on the Go Underhill project, a major plan by Mumbles Community Association (MCA) to transform Underhill Park in Mumbles into a modern and vibrant space. RDM, part of the wider RD Group, played a crucial role in providing MEP services, including the coordination and installation of all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, for the newly refurbished pavilion, changing facilities, and community hub and café.
Project scope
The Go Underhill development is multi-phase plan to revitalise and enhance the much-loved Underhill Park, located near the coast in Mumbles. This green space serves as a valuable resource for around 17,000 local residents and numerous sports teams, including Mumbles Rugby Club, Mumbles Rangers, and Swansea Cricket Club. The park features various amenities, including a children’s play area, picnic benches, woodland, football pitches, and rugby pitches.
RDM’s involvement in the project included Stage 5 design coordination alongside the client and appointed designer, along with all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing services, to ensure seamless integration and functionality of the building systems. The newly refurbished pavilion now features state-of-the-art facilities, such as new public toilets, changing facilities for sports teams, and a community hub and café.
Challenges and solutions
The Go Underhill project faced several challenges due to increased project costs resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. To address these challenges, we implemented value engineering, undertaking a comprehensive review of products and systems to align the project costs with the allocated budget. Through careful evaluation and cost-effective solutions, we successfully delivered the revitalised facilities while maintaining the project’s high standards.
Positive impact on the community
The transforming Underhill Park, with its upgraded facilities, contributes significantly to the health and wellbeing of the local community and visitors. More than 50 teams regularly utilise the park for various sports activities. The park’s appeal extends beyond sports, as it offers amenities that cater to a wide range of recreational needs, fostering a sense of community and encouraging outdoor engagement.
