RDM Electrical & Mechanical Services celebrates 35 years of innovative service

RD Group company, RDM Electrical & Mechanical Services, one of the UK’s leading providers of electrical and mechanical services, is celebrating 35 years of innovative service. The company was founded in 1988, and in the years since, has established a renowned reputation for delivering bespoke, flexible, and innovative designs, installations and maintenance solutions.

As well as celebrating three and a half decades trading, the South Wales-based company has recently experienced rapid expansion and job creation, largely as a result of securing several prestigious external contracts.

The company – now part of the wider Raven Delta (RD) Group – has increased its workforce significantly, including key personnel in management positions, and has established a new business unit in the Southeast of England. This expansion has been primarily due to the award of two contracts with industry-leading facilities management companies VIVO and VINCI, which cover MOD sites across central and South Wales and six MOD sites in the Oxfordshire area, respectively.

As well as expanding its presence across the UK, the company has also increased its influence within the industry, and is now highly-regarded for its forward-thinking and innovative approach to building design, construction and maintenance. As such, it was named the winner of the Indoor Air Quality Award at last year’s Building Engineering Services Association (BESA) National Awards for its significant role in the inception, development, and funding of a new British Standard (BS40102).

The new British Standard focuses on the measurement and improvement of health and well-being for all building occupants, providing positive social benefits. The multi-layered evaluation system generates an IEQ (Indoor Environmental Quality) performance level, combining measured results and occupant-based feedback, and covers topics such as light quality, thermal comfort, sound quality/pollution, and indoor air quality.

Some of the company’s most recent innovative projects include a £12 million sustainable employment development in partnership with Andrew Scott Limited at the Cross Hands East Strategic Employment Site in Carmarthenshire. This scheme will provide innovative and modern commercial space for businesses in the local area, with the aim of achieving a ‘net-zero carbon in-use standard’.

The development will use active building design principles and technologies, including on-site renewable energy generation from solar PV and high levels of insulation, and is expected to set a new standard for low-carbon employment and commercial spaces.

The company has also recently been instrumental in the delivery of a highly innovative project – the first of its kind in the UK – to install a comprehensive raft of integrated energy-saving, sustainable technologies at Swansea University’s Bay Campus. RDM, working with its sister-company EFT Consult, provided design and construction of all civil and structural elements on the cutting-edge project, which encompasses a commercial rooftop solar photovoltaics (PV) scheme, a carport solar PV scheme, a battery energy storage system (BESS) and electric vehicle (EV) chargers.

RDM is also passionate about supporting, training, and inspiring the next generation of building services engineers, as well as encouraging career development for those already working in the industry. The company achieves this through community engagement projects, school and college visits, apprenticeships, and ongoing personal and professional development for its staff.

Dave Kieft, Managing Director, RDM Electrical & Mechanical Services, said:

"We are delighted to celebrate our 35th anniversary and look back at the many achievements and milestones we have reached over the years. However, our focus remains clearly on the future of the company, and we pride ourselves on being innovative and forward-thinking. We remain committed to providing the highest quality services to our clients and ensuring that we stay at the forefront of our industry. This is why we are so proud to have played such an important role in the creation of the new British Standard 40102.

"We are also very proud to have a proven reputation for going the extra mile in all the projects we undertake. So as we look towards the future, we remain focused on providing world-class building services and solutions that will make a positive difference to the occupants of the buildings we work on, and now with the new British Standard coming into force, all buildings across the UK."
